8th SASFF : Jury Introduction

Sudeshna Roy
Sudeshna Roy was the Chairperson and Advisor of the West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights. She has been associated with the Commission since 2017. She is a journalist, script developer, story writer and filmmaker. She, along with Abhijit Guha, has made 23 full length feature films and over 30 films for television and OTT platforms. She concentrates on youth centric films with a touch of humour. She is also a columnist with several papers and e-magazines. Sudeshna Roy also acts on television and in cinema. She however started life as a teacher then went into journalism and forayed into the world of audio visual. Her concentration for the last seven years had been in protecting children. She is also a member of the selection committee of the Kolkata International Film Festival. In the last five years she has curated exhibitions on Soumitra Chatterjee, Satyajit Ray, Amitabh Bachchan, Dev Anand, Goddard, Mrinal Sen, Tapan Sinha,Arundhati Devi, Marcello Mastroaini, Marlon Brando and Harisadhan Dasgupta for the Kolkata International Film Festival. She has edited and put together books on Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen, Soumitra Chatterjee and Amitabh Bachchan which were published by the I&CA department of the Government of West Bengal. Her films have been showcased at various national and international festivals.

Saibal Mitra
From the cultural heart of Bengal to the international spotlight, Saibal Mitra is a cinematic craftsman whose journey began in the shadow of legends and evolved into a voice of his own. A Visva-Bharati graduate with a pulse on human complexities and social nuance, he’s turned frames into philosophies. Whether through the haunting “Songshoy,” the powerful “Chitrokar,” or the compelling “A Holy Conspiracy,” Mitra brings intellect and emotion into sync on screen. Award-winning, Panorama-featured, and endlessly curious — his lens is sharp, but his heart sharper.

Debalina Majumder
Debalina is a Kolkata-based filmmaker, cinematographer, and media producer. As a Berlinale Talent and Global Media Makers fellow, her diverse filmography spans documentaries, fiction, and video art. Her films explore themes of queer identity, feminist narratives, and marginalized histories. Notable works include “…and the unclaimed”, “If You Dare Desire…” and “Gay India Matrimony” Recent projects like “Tale of a Migrant City” and “City of Transit” focus on refugees and migrants. Debalina’s cinematography, photography, and films have gained global recognition, with her works being featured in university courses worldwide. She also founded “Tamarind Tunes” a community platform for music and discussions around history, politics, and contemporary issues.
